Massachusetts History, Culture & Economy

Massachusetts was named after the Native Americans who lived in the area – the Massachusett. The tribe’s name means “near the great hill,” which refers to the Blue Hills southwest of Boston.

The English established the first permanent settlement here in 1620 with the arrival of the Pilgrims at Plymouth. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in Plymouth in 1621. The American Revolution began in 1775 in Massachusetts and the state became the 6th state to join the U.S. on February 6, 1788.

Today, the economy of Massachusetts is driven by higher education, biotechnology, information technology, finance, healthcare, tourism, manufacturing, and defense.

There are more than 250 school districts in the state and over 100 institutions of higher education, including University of Massachusetts (with its five campuses), Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tufts University, Boston College, Amherst College and Wellesley College. The state is home to many national and state parks, including Boston National Historical Park, Cape Cod National Seashore, and Salem Maritime National Historic Site, as well as colonial landmarks and picturesque villages.

Massachusetts also has a large U.S. military presence which includes nine military bases, including Hanscom Air Field, Otis Air National Guard Base, Fort Devens, and Aviation Station Ten Pound Island.

Modular Applications

Modular buildings are the ideal solution for everyone from the new artist attempting to make a name for themselves, to the already established school or business in Massachusetts that is bursting at the seams.

Modular Offices – Ideal for real estate sales offices, law offices, jobsite/construction offices, park visitor centers, security offices, and any other permanent or temporary office you can imagine. Get your business up and running quickly, and generate revenue without waiting for a traditional design-bid-build construction project to be completed.

Modular Classrooms – Modular classrooms are an ideal solution for temporary or permanent science labs, libraries, media centers, gymnasiums and bookstores, and are well-suited to companies that need temporary employee training centers or call centers.

Modular Healthcare Facilities – From digital imaging facilities to medical office space to testing labs to patient rooms, nothing is too large or difficult. Modular buildings enable medical and dental clinics, research laboratories and community hospitals to reduce costs, enjoy a higher return on investment, and accelerate construction timelines.

Modular Government & Military Facilities – Our modular military buildings, barracks, and other buildings meet Federal government standards for all specific mission requirements. Modular Genius holds a US General Services Administration (GSA) contract, GS-07F-0124W, and offers energy efficient and eco-friendly green modular buildings and services to the federal government.
