Montana History, Culture & Economy

By the time the Europeans arrived in the 1700s, Native American tribes, such as the Blackfeet, Shoshone, Crow, Cheyenne, Kootenai and Salish lived in the area. In the 1700s, French fur traders arrived and began trading with the Native Americans for beaver furs. The United States bought the majority of Montana from the French in 1803 as part of the Louisiana Purchase.

Large deposits of gold were discovered in 1858, causing boom towns such as Helena and Virginia City to spring up. Montana was eventually admitted as the 41st U.S. state on November 8, 1889. Known for wide-open spaces, grassy plains, and towering mountains, Montana is the 4th largest state in the nation but has only the 43rd largest population.

Today, Montana’s economy is supported by a number of industries, including agriculture (including both crops and livestock), timber, mining, and travel and tourism. The state is home to many parks, forests and scenic areas, including Glacier National Park, Helena National Forest, Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, and Big Hole National Battlefield. The Crow Fair and Rodeo has occurred every year since 1909 and is the largest Northern Native American gathering.

There are more than a dozen public and private colleges and universities in Montana, including the University of Montana, Montana State University, Rocky Mountain College, and several tribal colleges.

Whether the need is short-term, long-term or permanent, all of these Montana industries, educational facilities, and government facilities are well-served by cost-effective modular construction.

Education

If you are a public or private educator or corporate trainer who needs fast, flexible teaching space, consider modular classrooms or training facilities. Modular Genius has an outstanding record in constructing modular classrooms, learning cottages, dormitories, daycare facilities, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and complete prefabricated school campuses.

Government & Military

Modular Genius supplies modular government buildings to meet the needs of national park visitor centers and ranger stations, community police and sheriff departments, drug enforcement agencies and more. Montana also has a U.S. military presence which includes Malmstrom Air Force Base and Great Falls International Airport, and we have completed modular projects for every branch of the U.S. military. We hold a US General Services Administration (GSA) contract, GS-07F-0124W.

Workforce Housing & Man Camps

Modular buildings are ideal for use as man camps, dormitories, bunk houses, and wherever you need flexible, functional living spaces that offer a “home-away-from-home” experience and can be scaled to accommodate from 10 to 5,000 people. Public and private contractors deploy them as temporary living quarters on construction, drilling and mining sites, often in remote locations.
